O goddess of love
I pray you be
the rise of dawn
that lifts me tall
into a selfless plane
beyond the hunger
in my veins
for tender pulse,
for selfish bleed.
I ask you, meet
this longing high
that love be like
a willing star
that has no other need
except to shine.

Hi Betty,
I have come to my computer tis morning before it is light and found this lovely line “that love be like willing star that has no other need except to shine”
That’s lovely, thank you.

Being lifted beyond the hunger in my own veins to a place where I only need to “shine”, to “let your light so shine before men”: this is also my prayer today. Bless you for this beaueous prayer-poem!

Thank you, Granbee… it’s been hard sometimes for me to get beyond that “selfish” part of loving – but I guess it’s a matter of growth (which takes a lifetime!)

“Love be like a willing star”–this is exquisite, Betty. I certainly agree with the difficulty in getting beyond selfishness in love…

Thank you, Lauren! Wish I had more time to follow through with this – will try to do so soon. (Someone else also nominated me this morning – alas, I don’t think I’m really deserving of the “versatile” part π ) Thanks again for thinking of me with this honor!!!

It was not meant to hurt – but to raise love to a higher plane (beyond space and time – and beyond MY selfishness)… especially when there was no other choice.

Just found this quote today – it’s what “Venus” was saying:
“Occupy my whole life with the one thought and the one desire of love, that I may love not for the sake of merit, not for the sake of perfection, not for the sake of virtue, not for the sake of sanctity but for love alone.”
