She climbed above
the addled day
beyond the spackled sky
until the sun
was all she knew.
It never rose,
nor did it set,
the world spun fast
below her now
but she no longer recognized
the frenzied bulbs
of toggled light,
the creaks
of channels switching,
no more tripping
over shadows,
no more blood
from steel spires.
Instead she heard
the muses singing,
heard the laughter
of the gods
and so she danced
a freedom tango
with a humble star
then rested
in the halo of full noon.

Thanks, Caddo – it’s just the result of a rare break through writer’s block and will probably end up being revised a lot! 🙂

Betty, thank you for much for this fabulous poem,, especially the ending:
“and so she danced a honey tango with a humble star then slept in the halo of full noon.” Unbelievable and breath-taking how well this describes my dreams as a “reprised senior writer”!

Thank you, Granbee! (I did revise a little last night and changed “honey tango” to “freedom tango”… poems never sit still with me, especially new ones!) I’m glad it was meaningful to you! 🙂 And I’m so glad you “reprised” your poetic self – sort of what I’ve been doing the last few months too! (Or trying to….)

Thanks for your nice comment, Lauren! (I revised it last night to “freedom tango” – maybe I should change it back to “honey”?)

That’s a tough one…They both make for a perfect, flowing conclusion…There’s just something about dancing a honey tango that I like, though…however, it’s up to you, being the Author! These are the tough choices we have to make! 🙂

Your selection of word strokes is really captivating. The ability to take common expressions and make them illustrious is a rare gift, and you certainly have it. This is a testimony to your mastery of language and ability to construct an endlessly imaginative world with your talent!
