.
Even in the storm
we dance –
on parched toes
we leap and twirl
our thirsty land
beneath the tumble
of a sky
that holds its breath . . .
then exhales inabluster.
Whirling through
the rising roar,
we raise our eyes
to slanted rain
then gambol high
across the hills
into the wind
above the trees
to thank the bow
that arcs
between the clouds.

Betty, may you dance until all the rainbows come home, and if storms come your way, may you whirl with the clouds and spin out poems like this as if dawn is just another word for glory.

The break in the verses comes in such a way that I feel the inhale/exhale moment deeply. A brilliant work, full of your signature adventurousness and magic! Great work, Betty!

Betty this is a wonderful poem!
I am learning as I go along but here and in much of your work I see “enjambment” – I think. Am I correct? It makes the poem flow so well; and I love “inabluster”and “to thank the bow that arcs between the clouds”
Just lovely – again!

Thank you, Christine – I had to look up “enjambment” to refresh my memory – and yes, I guess that’s what the inhale/exhale line break was. Gosh, I’d forgotten there was a name for that – which shows that I don’t really know what I’m doing, lol!! π I appreciate your comment!

There’s an irresistable rhythm here — a leap, skip, whirl rhythm that is electrically charged from start to finish! Loved this!
