.
We carve our words,
our paintings, sculptures,
music, dance
into the walls
of space and time
knowing one day
all will crumble down.
Even earth
will be consumed
by an aging sun someday.
But Cosmos gathers each creation,
weaves it into infinite Mind.
No thing is lost
except the empty shadow –
nothing really disappears,
not even love.

What a beautiful poem Betty. Its speaks to me of the eternalness of all that we are, all we create and especially the eternal energy of love – thank you for sharing such lovely words.

Thank you, Caddo – (I posted this without letting it “set” for awhile, which means it probably needs some tweaking. Darn clipboard gets impatient, sometimes! 🙂 )

Granbee, you’re so right! I was actually going to end it with “especially not love” or something like that, but then decided to emphasize it by understatement, if that makes sense. People often think love can be “lost” – but I think love is the greatest “art form” of all – that it’s indelible, beyond time and space….

A positive tone to the poem…even what one considers lost.

I agree with you so much, Betty! 🙂 As a saying goes, it’s not the destination, but the journey that matters. The ‘result’ may be ‘lost’ but the memories and lessons remain! 😀 – L

Background Story, thank you – and you’re so right. I think it’s the essence of our experience that lasts forever. 🙂 (And those timeless bonds of love.)

Ahh, may this be true, Betty. I don’t think I’ll be around when
…earth
will be consumed
by an aging sun someday,
but I would like to believe that through some mysterious chemical electrical reaction within the cosmos even love continues to be found, not lost, on some wondrous level of being and existence.
I’m glad you’re being positive today. Really glad.

Thank you, Thomas – that “wondrous level of being and existence” you mention is at my core, although my poetry doesn’t always reflect it. 🙂 (Deep inside, my Mayberrie character feels it as well.) It’s easy to lose perspective in the drama of life… and sometimes that’s where the muse comes alive and dances. Maybe it’s a catharsis – and/or just a need to communicate?

I saw a statue on the water like this in Copenhagen. Is this it?

Lilly, I found the image in Microsoft’s clip art collection and thought maybe it was one of those statues in Oslo. Going back to check just now, it has “Denmark” as one of its tags, so it probably is the one you saw in Copenhagen! Thank you for letting me know! 🙂 (There weren’t any other credits or captions for the photo on the Microsoft site.)

It is by the water in Copenhagen near the ferry you take to cross over to Sweden.

You’re so lucky to have visited that area! How large is the statue? (Hard to tell from the photo.) I would love to go there – starting out in Norway, where my grandparents were from. My Norwegian grandma’s name was “Lilly”, btw! 🙂

Lilly, I googled it, and read more about the statue. Thank you for identifying it for me – I’ve added a credit (sort of) to the post. 🙂

Picking up on your exchange with Granbee above, about the ending, I think you were absolutely right to go for the understatement here: it’s more effective – very effective!

John, thanks for your helpful feedback! I shall leave the ending as is – and appreciate your affirmation that this works. 🙂

Love never really leaves, it carves its essence into the walls of our hearts, then like a painting by a great master…it hangs there waiting for the right spark to bring life back into its lungs! Returning with its passionate kiss, trying to again steal your breath away. Wonderful and beautiful poem! You have a way of writing which leave one enjoying your poem’s conversation with me! Have a blessed day!
