Alas, I can’t access your blog! 😱

I apologize for any problems you are having. Hopefully, since you made this comment, this problem has resolved itself. I’ve just looked up my site on Google and had no problem accessing it and I’ve had likes from others after your comment came through. Reply in this space if you are still having problems.

I can comment and like, and everything is normal, but when I click on your site (your icon and “Ownshadow” from my own site it says “uapsnu.wordpress.com is no longer available… authors have deleted site.” So if others tried to follow that link to your page they’re probably getting the same message. Yet I can comment and like your messages and posts when clicking from notifications. Strange!

It is very strange. Other people’s sites sometimes behave in that way, I have found, but the patterns in my stats indicate my site is particularly prone to this anomaly. I have not touched the settings of my site recently so I can’t explain this latest issue. Thank you so much for drawing it to my attention and your continued patience!

It seems that uapsnu.wordpress.com isn’t the active URL to your site. When I’m on your blog it shows ownshadowownshadow.wordpress.com as your URL. It must have something to do with that discrepancy, and the reason why your “ownshadow” as it appears when you comment on my blog, is inactive. Must be something in the way you entered username, etc. in settings. I don’t blame you for not wanting to make any changes without some tech help. Maybe the help forums would have some suggestions?
At least I can get to your site via notifications, and reply to comments.

You may be right in your diagnosis. The message that tells me my site is wrongly configured also advises me to check my widgets. But none of the widgets seem to be relevant to the problem. Trying to get WP help has been a largely futile quest so far! But thank you once again for your generous advice and patience.

You’re welcome – I’m stubborn when it comes to solving such “mysteries” and wish there was more I could do to help! 🙂

Betty, I suggest you delete his site and then refollow. That should fix things for you. 🙂

Thanks, Ben. I’ll try that. (Although he’s having trouble with others not finding him. Also it seems he has two different URLs showing up.) Glad you were reading this thread – you’re more of a techie than I! 😊)

Please let me know if this does work. In that case it will probably work for the other folk having similar problems too. Fingers crossed.

Alas, it didn’t change things. Still can’t click on “ownshadow” icon from comments made to me – it keeps saying “uapsnu.wordpress.com” has been deleted. But that’s not even the correct URL…. 😵

Not that much, as it turns out. But hopefully traffic on your site is increasing anyway. It appears you’ve just been blogging a few months and it does take time to build it up. (Seems like it took me about a year to get anywhere.) I found that using more tags attracted more searchers, including “poetry” and “poem”. For what that’s worth. 🙂

Yes I eventually realized the importance of tags when I started using the Tags in Reader to find things. But if I use too many on a post, not all of them work. Also, I have such a back catalog that it would be very time consuming to go through them all. But I have made an effort. Thanks for the tip!

I’m just stubborn when it comes to solving a mystery. 🙂 I also want for your blog to get the most traffic possible because your poetry deserves a wide readership. Hopefully no one else is running into this problem.

Thank for that compliment. Your support is the main reason I have persisted with this site. I cannot thank you enough!

Well, I’m just glad you haven’t given up! It does take awhile to get rolling even without glitches.

BTW, in your above comment your gravatar is not active but shows “uapsnu.wordpress” as your URL. If anyone else (Ben?) reads this, I’d be curious to know if they see the same thing.

I looked at my Gravatar settings yesterday but I didn’t change anything (as far I know!). I will have another look at it. Thanks for letting me know!

One more thought – check your gravatar. That might be where there’s an incorrect configuration – (that conflicting URL) – which would explain a lot of things.

Thank you. I will take another look at it…

Okay, I unfollowed you and then re-followed as Ben suggested. Will see what happens.

Betty, I just clicked on the OwnShadow icon above, which took me to the Gravatar site as expected. I then clicked on the OwnShadow button there and it worked fine. It delivered me to https://ownshadowownshadow.wordpress.com as promised. Bottom line: I have no idea why you (and others) are having difficulties. Sorry. 😦

Good idea. It came through as a new follow for me. Glad to have you back!

Yes, good to be back! 🙂
Question still remains – your URL still shows up as uapsnu.wordpress.com on your gravatar when I click on it from your comments. Ah well! As long as I can access your blog through notifications. 🙂

My Gravatar settings just have an ownshadow button for my site and when I click on it in my gravatar settings I access the site easily (Although I am on the site itself to access the gravatar settings). I have to go by the logic of this fact until I have a better understanding of the system. None of the ‘help’ information or ‘how to’ options mean anything; it’s all just meaningless gibberish. WP clearly just wants people to use their forums. The fact is, once posts are on the internet – what else SHOULD people have to do? What else should they have to know? Why should there be settings which can cripple a site but which the process of setting up a site allows? It is simply sharp practice for a company to do this, the equivalent of selling you a faulty product. But never mind me – thank you once again for your advice!

Yes, it’s most frustrating. What WP wants us to do is pay the annual fee of making your site domain your own (without the “.wordpress” in your URL.) From what I’ve heard, the tech support is really good once you do this. At least one blogger told me she received quick, personalized tech support. But not all of us can afford the annual fee.
ANYway, you’re doing the right thing by not changing any settings if they’re working for you. It might be just a problem with my blog. The only way to know is if you comment on someone else’s post on their blog, you might ask them if your gravatar is active directly from their blog. It thankfully works fine from notifications, and when seen in a thread such as this one. 🙂

Thank you for that advice. I have often looked at other’s sites using only google (without logging on to ownshadow) and clicked on the comments I have previously left to see if my own site can be accessed and, by and large, I’ve had no problem. But I will certainly see if your suggestion yields any more clues to a solution.

Let me know if you discover anything. It might just be one of those glitches that goes away by itself. (It also might be I’m the only one having this problem with your gravatar icon – though it’s never been a problem before with other blogs. Wonder where the “uapsnu” comes from….)

It was originally used on my first ever blogsite on Thoughts.com (now expired) earlier in the year. I just made it up from the phrase ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ as I was at that time interested in expressing my thoughts on ufology.

Strange – how did the “uapsnu” get attached to your current blog, I wonder. Especially if it wasn’t even on WP. (Have never heard of Thoughts.co.) It scares me the way everything about us ends up being connected on the internet. Like, when I search my name, another woman’s profile comes up with the same name and my picture! But she’s five years older and lives 3000 miles away! Also her husband’s name is the same as mine. Don’t know what I can do about it…. Something fishy….

Yes, some very fishy things go on. No idea why uapsnu won’t go away.

Thanks for troubleshooting at your end, Ben. Hopefully the glitch from here will fix itself. I just hate to think that Ownshadow isn’t getting all the attention it deserves. Maybe I’m the only one having a problem. Haven’t encountered this before. (My OCD kicks in – gotta figure it out! 😰 )
