Dotty little lady bug,
I would give you such a hug
but if I hold you close to me
I’m afraid you’ll cease to be
so I shall place you on my finger,
maybe you won’t go, but linger
till a breeze lifts you away –
another flower, another day.

Just delightful…I think it would be perfect in a children’s book…thanks for sharing.

A tiny fragile ephemeral nugget of beauty. (The creature and the poem both.)

Thank you, Ben. I’ve always thought ladybugs were cute. And much needed in the garden! 🐞

Oh how I adore your writing! I shall endeavor to visit on a more regular basis. This piece has me laughing out loud (as I dry my eyes from an earlier work of art of yours). Now I really MUST go outside and garden, and I’ll bring this lovely ditty with me in my heart. Thank you dear lady!

Why did the flower fade? Because I held it too close to my heart…

Hi Peter!
Yes, your flower and my ladybug have that in common.
Good to see you! 🙋

Bit of a coincidence here, Betty, because a couple of weeks ago I was thinking of writing a book of children’s poetry 🙂

Martin, I think you’d be amazingly adept at writing children’s poetry. Let me know if you pursue that.

We have a more poetical but less accurate name for them in Britain. We call them Ladybirds. No, I don’t know why. Clearly, the early settlers kept the Lady part of the name. They had found an untouched Eden, I suppose, and decided it was right to do some renaming…This delightful poem so delicately captures the wonder children have when they fly from the finger. When I was seven, I once made a wish that one would come back…I’m still hopeful…

I didn’t know you called them Ladybirds over there. That’s a new one to me. Hope yours flies back to you someday! 🐞 🤗
