Ribbons, buttons, bobby pins and crocheted anything sums up my mom pretty well. Though she did loads of lovely pastel drawings as well. Do you sew, Betty? I was the only one who wanted her threads, buttons, and other misc sewing stuff. Such a shame – used all her life, and nobody was even interested ;*( So I took these things, though I had my own. Lovely word memory ❤

Bela, sounds like our moms had a lot in common. I too ended up with all her sewing things, crochet hooks, etc. And like you, I already had my own. I no longer sew but still have dozens of spools of thread, bobbins, needles – just in case! Oh, and that pink ribbon in the photo is one she bought for me to wear in my hair, in kindergarten! 😍 It’s not old or anything. 😉

Haha, yes, I used to wear ribbons in my hair as well – remember the little side part w/bow, even when we got older? I don’t remember wearing that, but my older sisters surely did! ❤

Yes, it seems every little girl wore that side part with bow, lol! I only wore it in kindergarten and 1st grade but do remember some older girls still sporting the side bow. (I was always wanting long hair and my mom always made me get it cut – a constant battle!)

Oh, I LONGED for my first haircut. My sisters all still wear their hair long – too much maintenance for me, but never say never 😉 xo

Isn’t that always the way when we’re kids? We always want the hair that our moms won’t let us have. And into adulthood…. everyone I know who has beautiful, naturally curly hair wants straight hair – and those like me with straight hair long for curly or wavy hair! 😆

Isn’t it odd how we choose to save the small things that defined the ones we loved in such big ways.

It seems to be true, Sharon. Perhaps it’s those little things that fit more easily into our hearts. (And our closets. 😉 )

Oh, this is beautiful, Betty, and what a great first try, too! Your words made me think of my mom, also, and how she could sew anything, unlike her daughter. 😊 Precious memories. 💖🎀

It does seem to be the little things that can be so meaningful and memorable. Thank you, Charlie. 🙂

Both the content and the format illustrate the adage “Less is more”. Well managed, Betty. It reminds me also of your recent poem,”Finders Keepers”. Bitter sweet memories.

Ah yes, those two poems do run parallel. In fact the pink ribbon in the picture happened to be in my jewelry box next to the heart shaped bottle cap. 😊

I am downsizing again as when my lease is up next March will have to move again because they are increasing the rent here. I am always finding something to remind me of my mom…gone nearly 10yrs now…but still within so many things that I touch. Beautiful poem.
