How to Weigh a Poem

Pour it

through your fingers

taste its color

on your tongue

be it raw, or breaded

with salty metaphor.

Take its temperature

on your forehead

then weigh it tenderly

careful

not to put your thumb

on the scale.

  Thanks, Renee. Wrote this in my head, middle of the night last night. This was all I could remember. Need to start keeping a flashlight, pen and pad next to the bed. 🙂

    It’s a good idea Betty. I always have a small book of blank lines pages by my bed in the event I think of something. It has been foggy all day here and this morning the ground was covered with its’ first frost. Keep warm!

Love this, Betty, and the ending is perfect! I read how you created this in the middle of the night. I’ve done that before and still don’t have a pen and paper by the bed. It’s brave to rely on memory alone. 🙂 I’m glad you remembered this, though. Love and hugs! 💖
