.
This world has changed
since you and I
allowed the years
to wrinkle by
.
without a pause
we didn’t notice
the quiet closing
of the lotus.
.
Now we fail
to recognize
the crinkles ‘round
each other’s eyes
.
when one says no,
the other yes —
a corner turned
yet I confess
.
that deep inside
I’ll ne’er forget
your Romeo
to my Juliet.

Touches a lot of memories, makes me wistful. “The quiet closing of the lotus” leaving behind its pod, a reminder of the petals that once bloomed around it.

Yes….it leads to reflection which most often leads to poetry. Though not good to get stuck there.

Love that metaphor Betty…”years to wrinkle by”…wrinkles smile through the mirror of time when the memories match our expectations. Such a love that comes through your lines never withers despite disagreements.
Beautiful poetry! I am so happy to connect with you.

This made me smile. Some people just get stuck in time…and that’s the right place for them to be! (K)

Its interesting how I put down my pencil, having traced out a few words about this very same scenario.
In my words-
‘We used to share one universe. But now I don’t understand the planets you live in with suns I’ve never seen.’
I find resonance in your words ❤

I find resonance in your words as well, Sahana. Interesting, the synchronicity – I always love when that happens. 🙂

Like Paulo Coelho says in his ‘Zahir’, that’s part of being a writer I guess – to find that our soul isn’t alone
