.
The day comes
when his totem
tumbles to the ground
and he commands silence.
.
He empties his pouch
of tooth and claw,
spreads his eagle wings
and flies to the top
of the mountain,
.
and with one last glance
at the ashes
and the shattering,
he sighs, and
disappears
into his own truth.

Commanding silence. I like that idea.

A beautiful mystical poem, Betty. Amongst my many ethnic beings there is Seminole Indian…my great grandmother whom I never did meet. I like this very much.

Renee, thank you so much! (I suspect a little Native American in me also – feel it in my blood.) Hope you’re doing well and enjoying this sunny fall day. π

ππ€. Same happened to me several times. I then hit the non follow button and afterwards followed again then it worked. But yes some of the WPways are miraculous π

I’ve tried that in the past and sometimes it works (to unfollow and re-follow) and other times it doesn’t. Yes, WP can be very quirky! βΊοΈ Will try to visit your blog more often. π

Beautiful words and imagery, Betty, and these lines stood out for me:
“and with one last glance at the ashes and the shattering,
he sighs”
Have a good evening, my friend. Sending hugs and love…β€ππ

Glad you liked this, Lauren. I know those lines must’ve struck a chord with you. Watching the fires there on the news – just horrendous!
Take good care, my friend. Love to you πππ

I’ll probably just end up as a budgerigar, but the idea of a being a shaman fascinates me. Poets like yourself do us a great service keeping this ancient wisdom from flat-lining completely.

Thank you, it helps that one of my muses is shaman oriented. π

It may be shattering to face the truth but it’s essential. And then you wrote it so beautifully in this poem.
