.
.
When we hurt,
grief wants nothing more
than to light a candle
and sit with us
in our keening.
.
If we look it in the eye
we’ll see
its soft depth
as it holds us tenderly
to the flame.
.
And when we’re ready
we’ll hold it in return
and watch the spiral
of warm smoke
rise to the sky.

Beautiful, Betty. So many kinds of loss I am finding after this last move. I do hope you are well. I know you miss your son. Thinking of you.

Thank you for your thoughts, Renee. (Yes, this month marks two years….)
I’ve been thinking of you, wondering how you were doing. It can’t be easy making such adjustments! Hope it’ll get easier.

I’ve been here six week and have vacillated between staying and moving again but I find I simply have no energy left for another move so I am trying to adjust to my active granddaughters by thinking of them as white noise. A funny thing to do but I won’t adjust otherwise as in order to write and create art I need to believe there is more quiet than there really is. It’s been so very many years since my children were little and I found raising them here in WA without help to be very hard as all of my family was in CA. The only ones left there now are my sister and dad. The one thing that is always certain and that is change. I do wish for you all the best and if there is sun your way, please do enjoy some. We’ve been getting a bit here but then the rain comes again. By next Wed it is suppose to warm up once more. Take care and thank you for thinking of me as well.

Renee, I know what you mean about the thought of moving! It’s exhausting, not to mention traumatic when the change is unwanted. Made me smile, thinking of the din of small children as white noise. Much as we love our grandchildren they wear us out after a couple of hours. It’d be hard to live with them at our age! Glad you’re still able to write and do your artwork.
I hope you’re getting some sunshine there today too. (Partly sunny here and no rain so far.) You take care also!

Grief can chain us forever to sorrow or eventually let us be free. Betty, I wish you well in this difficult journey.
