.
I remember
when twenty-five years
was my whole lifetime.
.
Now a quarter century
is just another tumbleweed
bouncing down the street –
.
a little bit battered,
a lot more dust
but what wonderful kindling
I’ll be!

I like to think each 25 held something, but this current one, for all I feel I’m getting from it, seems to be flying by.

I know what you mean, Ken. In a couple more years I’ll have three “tumbleweeds” behind me. 🤫 It does indeed go by so fast!

Thank you, Renee – so glad you do!
(Hope you’re staying warm – is it snowing there yet? This week should be interesting. Take care. 🙂)

Got about 2 inches of snow last night and it is very cold today. Snow is still on the ground but not the streets or sidewalks. Took a fall on my left knee last Friday morning (been falling since I was a kid when I had skinned up knees and elbows…things never change). Better today but stairs are still a bit much (my bedroom is upstairs). But no worries as I have things to get done…snow or not and knee or not. LOL Take care and stay warm.

Renee, sorry to hear about your fall! How is your knee? Hopefully you’re better able to climb the stairs. (I too was one of those kids who had frequent skinned knees, lol. Not so easy to recover from when we’re older.)
We only had a few snow dustings here…. nothing that stuck. Now back to wind and rain tonight…. Am soooo looking forward to spring!

You know some folks paint tumbleweeds and use them as Christmas trees and such…hmm…another than option vs kindling. 🙂

When I was about 8, I tried to figure out how old I would be at the new century, My math skills were abominable – still are – but I knew I’d be ancient.
So here I am, 20 years into the new century, I AM ancient, but now I’m terrible worried about the next 25 years for our poor battered planet. I won’t be here but my children and grandchildren will. I don’t want the world to be kindling for its destruction.
Sorry, I’m in one of those moods – have been for a while.
Still, I wish you and yours a happy, healthy, joyous New Year and the same to all your wonderful readers and followers.

I worry too, Sharon. Don’t apologize for your “mood” – I’m right there with you. (Back in the late 60’s I read a couple of books by Edgar Cayce. Didn’t take his “prophecies” seriously at the time – I was young and the future was so far away. Sadly he was right about everything.)
But I’m hoping humanity will survive and regain its innate respect for this Earth of ours (that so many indigenous societies never lost).
Wishing you and yours also a peaceful, happy, healthy New Year. ❤️

As I read your lovely poem, I thought “better tumbleweed than dust bunny” I feel rather like the latter at the moment.

Thanks, Val – I love your dust bunny comment. (That might not be so bad, actually. 😄 )

Nice one Betty. We have no choice as the years whistle by faster and faster. One gets old quick. Like your attitude though.

Thanks very much, Dennis. The years do actually whistle these days! (Or maybe that’s the tinnitus…. 😄 )
