.
The tree turns into bone
while its leaves
turn into feathers
in the alabaster light
just before the sun goes down.
.
Ninety feet up
a young eagle leaps
around his nest
of sticks and straw
flapping his wings
like wide miracles
.
until the sun finally sets
and they fold again
hugging his wild sides –
every bone and feather
neatly back in place.

Inspired by watching the Redding, California eagle cam. I highly recommend! The three eaglets will fledge in 2-3 weeks.
Sorry for my absence here… hoping to eventually catch up with everyone.
Also hope you’re all well — I’ve missed you all. ❤

A fine, vivid, and well-structured, piece, Betty!✨
(Missed you, too!)

Thank you Betty. I am getting ready to go with him to Wyoming as he still has some things to get that he left before his wife passed. A big journey for me as I’ve really never left the West Coast.

I love ‘Wild Sides’, Betty. The young eagle in a nest, flexing his wings by twilight – what a gorgeous image! And right up my street too, as I’m a keen bird-watcher and member of the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).
No eagles here on Halkyn Mountain (N.E. Wales), unfortunately. Many buzzards circling aloft though, ready to swoop at the slightest twitch of a whisker below.
Best always – take care,
Paul

Paul, I’m so happy you like this one! Glad to know you’re a “birder”, as we call them, and that you belong to such an important organization. My mom and aunt were also avid birders and my son is too. (He’s also a talented bird photographer.)
And yes, the eagle cam I’ve been watching is fascinating. Three eaglets, thriving and just about ready to fledge in 2 weeks.
I’m sorry to hear you don’t have eagles in Wales, but I can imagine you have many other spectacular species to make up for that.
Best always, back to you,
Betty
