He shells
those cornered dreams
that rub us raw
secreting love
around torn edges
polishing
with his own tears
pearls of poetry.

We sail clear
the silk lagoon
tomorrow lapping
at our bow
but in the stern
your eyes narrow,
darken
on a sunken boot
filled with empty oyster shells.
Why can’t you let them rest?
I ask,
fingering my necklace
of pearls.
